Sense Poems

First Birdie

green a little ways away
fresh air and pollen and grass
sticks rattling and birds singing
rubber in my hands
victory and a birdie coming along
love this game

By Mason

Hawaii

pretty sparkling water
wet sand
dolphins laughing
sand beneath my feet
coconut on the palm tree
water is flowing fast

By Kenzie

I was very excited with how these turned out! And, I think the kids even enjoyed writing these. The poems started out with the kids following this pattern:

a. I see...
b. I smell...
c. I hear...
d. I feel...
e. I taste...
f. I think...

Then we removed the pronouns, verbs and articles as needed. Hope you enjoyed them!

Another Fun Weekend!

Vitamin D

The picture is not all that good, but I wanted it for this post. If ever one could sell Vitamin D, it would be my dad. He is a true believer in the benifits of this little vitamin! One time recently, when I was home, he brought me a bottle and said, "start taking this." That was it though, there was no real explanation as to why I should take it. So, I brought it home and but it in the cabinet with the other vitamins that I rarely take. But, the last time we were at the lake with my parents and John's parents, he started talking, and let me just tell you, if it is good for all the things he believes it is, I will take it every day for the rest of my life!

The Stork's Nest

These pictures are thanks to John! He took several fun shots of the flag out on the dock and I picked my favorite one to share with you all. Also, we stopped by an old junk store on the side of the road to take pictures on our way home, that is where the welcome to Tennessee picture was taken. The rest were at the lake house where we enjoyed some lovely weather fishing and hanging out on the porch overlooking the lake!

Pretty Plants Make Me Happy

So, our weather went from beautiful and in the 70's to a current 34 degrees and rainy. While this weather is great for sleeping, it does not give me that "spring is around the corner" happy feeling inside. So, as we hope for warmer weather, I am finding my happy spring place in our new beautiful plant. Yesterday, we picked out this fun orchid! Kenzie and her friend, Hannah, ooo-ed and ahh-ed over it for a long time last night. It's a lot bigger than I had imagined...so, now, where to put it!?! It is currently sitting on the edge of our coffee table. Any suggestions of other places it might look nice in the house?

Short Stories by Kenz

A Dilapiler is an animal that has as many legs as a catapiler. But has a dill pickel body. One day a Dilapiler came into my house and went into my brothers room and squirted pickel juice on my brothers bed. The End.

Yesterdays Field Trip

We went to the Pink Palace with some friends and looked all around this exhibit. It sounds gross, but it truly was fascinating to find out the many uses of poop. The kids were able to step on a scale and find out how many hours it takes an elephant to poop their weight, race dung beetles, and find out in what part of the world black tea is made out of caterpillar poop. The exhibit also talked about the diseases that can be spread through poop and why septic tanks were developed. We also saw how some people use it to make their homes and cook their food, as well as how it is used to grow things. On the way home, we talked about how amazing God is that He made fruit appealing to the eye, so that animals would eat it, seeds and all, and those seeds would later come out to grow new trees!

The Pink Palace museum is also fascinating. We cruised through at break neck speed, but were able to take in some of the history along the way. I hope to take the kids back and take our time going through it all!

70's to Snow

So, on Friday, Mason played a round of golf, while Kenzie and I spent the afternoon outside with friends enjoying the sunny weather. As night came upon us, the temperature began to drop. Yesterday we decided to watch some of the John Adams series, and as we did, we also began to hear sounds of sleet, which then turned to snow, which left us with this...
